Drydocking without a Drydock

Case Study: Spudcan Repair – “Drydocking Without a Drydock”

One of our clients operating in West African waterssuffered serious damage to a spudcan that required immediate repairs. The nearest shipyard capable of handling such complex work was thousands of miles away, and the cost, time, and uncertainty of mobilization—combined with the lack of an immediate repair slot—posed a major challenge for both the client and their end customer.

Instead of relying on traditional options, Hayat Lestari Holdings deployed engineering creativityto design a floating dock solution using a locally available dumb barge. Through detailed planning, precise engineering calculations, and innovative use of existing assets, we successfully executed a “drydocking without a drydock”operation.

Despite the challenging local conditions, our team delivered a safe, efficient, and cost-effective repair—eliminating long mobilization delays and saving the client both time and money.

This project highlights our ability to engineer solutions under pressure, adapt to local constraints, and deliver results that would otherwise be considered impossible.
