Heavy Engineering, Offshore: Turning a Jack-Up Into Its Own Workshop
A client required the urgent reactivation and repair of a jacking systemon their offshore jack-up rig. Several gearboxes needed to be overhauled to restore jacking capability, but the static loading conditions meant that only two gearboxes could be removed at a time, and each had to be reinstalled before the next could be serviced.
Under normal circumstances, such precision heavy-engineering workrequires gearboxes to be transported onshore to a specialized workshop—an approach that would have added significant time and risk to the client’s schedule.
Recognizing the urgency, Hayat Lestari Holdings mobilized a team of specialistswho designed and fabricated custom toolsto establish a temporary onboard workshop. This innovative solution enabled the full overhaul of the gearboxes offshore, without the need for onshore facilities.
By executing the work directly on the rig, we completed the project in one-third of the usual time, allowing the client to meet their operational schedule and avoid costly delays.
This project demonstrates our ability to combine engineering precision with field adaptability, delivering fast-track solutions that keep our clients’ assets operational even under the most demanding conditions.
